‘Ole Radiator Board

‘Ole Radiator board is a custom-built instrument designed to capture the rich, metallic sounds of footsteps on metal trackways and deep thumping noises. I repurposed an old Onkyo pre-amplifier, extracting the radiator component and mounting it onto a piece of 8x2 timber. The aluminum body of the radiator creates a dynamic resonance that’s perfect for foley work, with a distinct, sharp tonal quality that adds depth to any sound design.

Equipped with a triple-head piezo microphone built directly into the timber mounting board, this unit allows for seamless digital connection, making it easy to integrate into any recording setup. Combining craftsmanship with functionality, it’s an essential addition for any sound designer looking for precise, high-quality metallic effects.
