Who’s Rogue Tactics ?
I was born and raised in Cardiff, Wales, where my love for music was nurtured by my family. My parents introduced me to a rich tapestry of genres, from Motown and Soul to R&B and Classical music. My dad’s extensive film collection opened my mind to legendary composers like Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, and Howard Shore, while my Nan’s love for Reggae, Blues, and Rock shaped my early vocal style. Singing along to these diverse influences became a passion that continues to define my artistic identity—a fusion of soulful R&B and gritty Blues.
Music has been a constant in my life, even without formal training. Inspired by my dad’s attempt to learn guitar, I began experimenting with his instrument before receiving my own acoustic guitar. This sparked my fascination with DADGAD tuning, which became the foundation for my compositions. These early explorations led to the formation of my first band, Tree of Sound, and the release of a three-track EP on SoundCloud—a milestone that fueled my artistic drive.
Growing up in St Mellons, Cardiff, a working-class area on the city’s outskirts, taught me resilience and independence. At 17, I moved out on my own, seeking freedom and the opportunity to grow beyond my environment. The financial struggles I faced—especially during the housing crisis of 2011—pushed me to develop my skills and immerse myself in a community of like-minded creatives. This period marked the beginning of my journey as an artist, where I honed my craft in music production, songwriting, and sound design.
My influences are as diverse as my upbringing, spanning artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Notorious B.I.G., 50 Cent, DJ Shadow, Brandy, Boys II Men, Junior Kimbrough, B.B. King, and R.L. Burnside. Their music taught me to sing, rap, and produce, shaping a distinct style that blends soulful melodies with raw, blues-inspired grit.
Though I initially avoided music theory, preferring a hands-on approach, I’ve learned to create with freedom and confidence. My work reflects a commitment to exploring new sounds, experimenting with custom-built instruments, and crafting immersive experiences for listeners.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of my artistic philosophy. Whether working with musicians, filmmakers, or visual artists, I embrace the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary creativity. Stepping into uncharted territory pushes me to grow and creates work that resonates on a deeper level.
Looking ahead, I aim to expand my knowledge and creativity by collaborating with artists worldwide and delving further into composition. My goal is to explore new soundscapes across various media, while staying true to my passion for storytelling through music.
Ultimately, my music is an invitation—an escape into a world of imagination, emotion, and discovery. It’s more than sound; it’s a reflection of my life, a bridge to new experiences, and a journey I’m excited to share with others.
