Brass Rod Box

The Brass Rod Box is a handcrafted instrument designed to explore the resonant tones of brass. Built with the same sturdy 12mm plywood frame as the Spring Box—nailed and glued for strength—it features a sound hole on the front for capturing its acoustics with a microphone. An integrated piezo pickup allows for direct connection to a preamp or audio interface, ensuring maximum versatility in recording and performance.

Brass rods, carefully slotted into precision-drilled holes on the top of the body, produce a rich, metallic resonance when struck or manipulated. I created the Brass Rod Box to deliver a unique combination of melodic and percussive possibilities, ideal for experimental sound design and atmospheric compositions.
