Alastair Reid - Reids Digital Music
At just five years old, Alastair’s musical journey began when his mother gifted him a small Casio keyboard, igniting his fascination with electronic sounds. Influenced by his parents' love for a diverse range of music genres including Reggae, Soul, RnB, and Hip-Hop, Alastair started to emulate the rhythms and beats he heard at home using his keyboard. As his passion grew, Alastair upgraded to more advanced keyboards, exploring new soundscapes, effects, and even multi-track recording. A fan of U.S. Hip-Hop, he would attempt to recreate his favourite songs, honing his production skills along the way.
With an expanding collection of music production hardware and software, throughout his teenage years, Alastair’s production toolkit continued to evolve. This was alongside his formal education in music production, which continued into his 20’s. This provided him with the technical expertise and connections needed to refine his craft.
After completing his studies, Alastair began working full-time at a secondary school, where he developed a music technology after-school club. This eventually developed into Reid’s Digital Music, a business focused on teaching the basics of digital music production through after-school clubs and workshops. Alastair’s program has gained significant traction and has partnered with Cardiff and Vale Music Education as part of the National Plan for Music Education in Wales. Funded by the Welsh Government, this initiative ensures that children and young people across Wales have equal opportunities to participate in music creation, whether through traditional instruments or digital technology.
Alastair continues to expand Reid’s Digital Music by introducing it’s services to more schools, teachers, and students each year. Alongside his educational ventures, he remains committed to his personal music development, consistently experimenting with sound and collaborating with other artists."
Our Works
Reids Digital Music
In collaboration with Alastair Reid at Reids Digital Music, I had the opportunity to teach music classes that introduced school children to the world of music production using GarageBand on iPads and computers. Alastair founded Reids Digital Music in 2013 with the goal of providing engaging and accessible music education. Working alongside him, I taught students both after-school and during school hours, passing on my passion for music production in a way that was both educational and enjoyable. Being able to teach a subject I love was truly an honor, and it was a rewarding experience to share that knowledge with young, aspiring musicians
